Your Life Your Say
The last decade has seen a major shift in the provision of services for people with learning disabilities with a movement away from residential care services to supported living. In acknowledging the rights of people with learning disabilities to have their own home, Local Authorities are providing tenancy agreements and supported living services.
Central Government is committed to improving the quality of life for service users whilst at the same time wishing to ensure value for money. In the Government's Annual Report on Learning Disability (2005) two key points are emphasised:
| o |
everyone with a learning disability should play a full part in making decisions about their lives. |
| o |
all people arranging and providing services for people with a learning disability must listen to what people with a learning disability say. |
Bettal Quality Consultancy has developed a new tool to support Service User involvement and evaluation of their services. Your Life - Your Say aims to facilitate a discussion among service users, their representatives and support staff about the quality of the person centred service.
The objective is to support staff and management to evaluate what are the strengths of the service and to identify those outcomes that are not being met and can be improved.
Your Life - Your Say provides evidence of listening to and acting on behalf of service users to commissioners, external assessors and inspectors of the service, and a basis of consultation to establish if the service meets the requirements of best value and value for money.
