In 2023 Bettal have seen a marked increase in the number of potential providers seeking registration with the CQC. Many providers who have experience with care homes or domiciliary care agencies are now seeking a new venture, and see supported living services as a means of expanding their businesses or a change in business.
Advantages of supported living
Supported living services offer a viable alternative for people who do not want to live in residential care but you're finding it difficult to cope at home.
Supported living services can provide a combination of suitable accommodation – which can be in a person’s own home with some forms of personal care for example help and support with some of the tasks of daily living.
Accommodation and care
There are 2 elements to supported living services:
1. Accommodation
Some supported living homes are shared by 2 or 3 people with a similar health problem, such as a substance misuse problem or a particular disability.
2. Care
The care element is subject to the standards and regulations of the CQC and the Single Assessment Framework. Supported living care staff visits homes to support people based upon their assessed needs.
Bettal Support
Bettal are leaders in the registration of domiciliary care services and over the past year have supported over 150 domiciliary care agencies to achieve CQC Registration. Given that supported living services requires care services, Bettal are in in the ideal position to build on its success with domiciliary care agencies by providing the same level of support to those seeking registration of supported living services.
Registration is a two-stage process
In stage one the applicant is required to submit a range of documents to the CQC provided by Bettal Quality Consultancy that can be amended as appropriate by the provider seeking registration. Bettal also provides advice on the completion of the documentation.
Stage two involves an in-depth interview to establish the applicant’s understanding of the CQC Fundamental Standards and the Quality Statements and regulations. The Bettal Registration Support Pack provides guidance on how to approach the interview.
Links between registration documentation and the Bettal online system
The documentation Bettal uses to support providers with their registration application is drawn from the Bettal Quality Management online system. This in effect means that providers can use the same documentation in the running of their service when they achieve registration.
Why people seeking registration should invest in Bettal
Bettal have a fine track record in helping supported living services achieve registration.
We believe providers seeking registration support should consider 4 basic questions:
• Does the supplier have a successful track record in supporting agencies with registration
• Is the supplier’s documentation compliant with the registration requirements of CQC.
• Is the registration package recommended by others
• Is the cost competitive.
